The concert kicks off with a rockin’ introduction featuring Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald Duck, who then teach the audience that they don’t need traditional instruments to make music. Mickey and friends showed us that we can make music by blowing air into a bottle, shaking a squeaking rubber chicken, or rubbing a dirty old lamp, which unbeknownst to Mickey and friends is actually a magical lamp and home to The Genie.
The stage then transforms into the fictional Arabian city of Agrabah, home to our favorite street urchin, Aladdin, and Princess Jasmine, the daughter of the sultan. While the Aladdin set of the concert features popular songs the movie including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me,” the show also incorporates rock classics such as Steffenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride,” a treat for the adults in the audience, when we meet Aladdin’s friend, The Magic Carpet.
We then head “Under the Sea” with Sebastian, King Triton’s loyal crab composer from “The Little Mermaid.” We meet King Triton’s six eldest daughters, who show that they not only know songs written Sebastian but they have the dance moves like Beyoncé. Of course, we meet King Triton’s youngest daughter, Princess Ariel, who has fallen in love with Prince Eric. Ariel gives up her beautiful voice to Ursula, the sea witch, so she can become human and receive a kiss of true love from Prince Eric.
The third act of the concert takes us from the Wild West to Outer Space with “Toy Story” pals Woody, Jessie, Bullseye and Buzz Lightyear. Woody and the gang teach the audience new dance moves and rock out to popular “Jock Jams.” When the meteors (which are beach balls in disguise) bounce into the audience, keep an eye on your little ones because they will want to chase them throughout the arena and even rush the stage at the end of the concert.
The show starts promptly on time so aim to arrive with plenty of time to park and find your seat. “Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival” runs for about 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.
