Founded in 1985, Musicals at Richter is Connecticut’s longest-running outdoor theater. Performances are given on weekends at the Richter Arts Center (next to the Richter Park Golf Course), 100 Aunt Hack Road, in Danbury. Nestled in the hills of Western Connecticut, the Arts Center stage has served as the scenic backdrop for over 100 musicals produced by Musicals at Richter, as well as a professional springboard for hundreds of up-and-coming performers.
The purpose of Musicals at Richter is to:
- Provide affordable quality family entertainment to the greater Danbury area in the form of musical theater, operettas, musical revues, and children's theater.
- Give the opportunity to all area talent pursuing a theatrical career to bridge into professional quality theatrical productions through productions and youth instruction.
- Provide an opportunity for members of the community of all ages, and diverse backgrounds to participate in and experience professional quality theatrical productions.
The Summer Youth Musical Theater Workshop at Musicals at Richter is not only a fun way for children to spend the summer, but also an exciting way to improve their skills and put on a show at the same time! This year’s production is Seussical JR. Embark on a summer of theatrical discovery with our dynamic youth theater program! Participants will enter the world of stagecraft, exploring every aspect of production while honing foundational skills essential for creating captivating performances, which include singing, acting, and dancing. With mornings being devoted to individual growth, the afternoons are dedicated to working as an ensemble to put a production together including rehearsals and set/prop construction. Participants are involved in every aspect of putting on a show, both onstage, and offstage. Join us in a supportive environment where creativity flourishes and imaginations soar. Together, as a tight-knit ensemble, participants will craft an exciting show, fostering teamwork and camaraderie along the way. A non judgemental atmosphere allows students to feel comfortable enough to have the confidence to push the limits of their own abilities, attain their potential, and have fun in the process!

ONE CAMP NOT ENOUGH? Our Fairy Tale Theater program for actors of ages 8-14 is a great add-on to your camp experience anywhere! Rehearsals are early evenings on three weeknights and performances are Saturday mornings in July, all take place at Richter Park in Danbury. Audition required on Sat 4/13 from 10-12 at the Ridgefield Theater Barn or by appointment.
