The Ridgefield Montessori School offers a wide range of programs including Infant, Toddler, Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. In addition, all RMS students participate in our weekly foreign language and music classes, as well as Art and in-house and off-site field trips. Early Drop-off, Extended Day, After-care and Enrichment programs are also offered.
RMS bases its educational philosophy on the teachings of educator Dr. Maria Montessori, who believed in integrating a child’s personality and individual thought processes into that child’s curriculum. Montessori believed that educators should “develop interest rather than give facts”, instilling in a child the curiosity necessary to pursue an individualized education.
In the Montessori Program there are traditionally nine areas of classroom study. Each involves a different set of skills, challenges and learning experience:
