Bethel’s Byrd’s Books delights in getting its community together and especially when its annual month-long, town-wide hunt for the iconic character of Where’s Waldo? gets the Bethel business community involved. On Monday, July 1st, the popular, independent bookstore kicks off its 13th year of hiding Waldo throughout Bethel for both young and old to find — and win prizes!
First published in 1987, Where's Waldo? is a popular children's book that was created by the British illustrator Martin Handford. It quickly became a sensation worldwide, spawning a series of “look and find” books as the bespectacaled Waldo, in his striped red-and-white shirt, travels to such everyday places as the zoo, the beach, the museum, and even Hollywood.
Byrd’s Books’ hunt for Waldo will take enthusiastic players to 25 businesses throughout Bethel and will culminate with a party at Byrd’s Books on Saturday, July 27th at 4:00pm. To participate, simply pick up a passport at ByrdsBooks or download a copy on their website, ByrdsBooks.com, then find Waldo hiding in each business and get your passport stamped. Hint: A list of participating businesses can be found on their website.
With ten stamps, you can get a sticker and a coupon from Byrd’s Books for $1.00 off a Where’s Waldo book. Get 20 out of 25 stamps on your passport and you’ll receive a ticket to enter for a Grand Prize drawing at the July 27th party.
The first 50 Waldo Hunters arriving at the party will receive a special goodie bag. All 25 participating Bethel businesses have donated to either the goodie bags or to one of three Grand Prizes.
