Musicals at Richter (MAR) began its 22nd season of Fairy Tale Theater, a play series by and for young people, on Saturday July 8 at WorkspaceCT in Bethel. Shows continue July 15 and every Saturday in July. The 2023 shows include:

“Beauty and the Beast’ (July 8)

“Aesop’s Fables: Fox’s Adventures” and “Puss In Boots” (July 15)

“Princess Without a Shadow” (July 22)

 “Snow White” (July 29)

Performed by an ensemble of young area actors under the direction of veteran performer Rob Mayette of Ridgefield, these hour-long, interactive adaptations of classic tales include plenty of audience participation, a show-related craft activity, birthday recognitions and a visit with narrator and troubadour Alan-a-Dale (played by Mayette).

In the case of rain, the performance will be held inside the Workspace facility. “The kids really give their all in the performances,” says Mayette. “They love exploring these stories and bringing the characters to life, but the best part for them is seeing how children in the audience respond and enthusiastically follow the action.” Mayette adds,

“While these productions are primarily geared for children ages 2 to 12, audiences of all ages will enjoy the shows and the excitement of a live performance.”

The 2023 Fairy Tale Theater company of young actors includes Jacqui Matchen, Rachelle Matchen and Hailey Mott (Bethel); Wesley Thompson (Brookfield); Liberty Cummings, Stella Diaz, Kayleigh Dickinson, Patrick Garcia, Robert Garcia, Lucy Morelli, Brisa Pierce and Lily Smith (Danbury); Tegan Merchant (Newtown); Declan Brennan, Charlotte Mayette and Emily Mayette (Ridgefield); and Eva Sussman (South Salem, NY).

Musicals at Richter is pleased to once again be working in association with WorkspaceCT to present the Fairy Tale Theatre play series. WorkspaceCT is located at 16 Trowbridge Drive in Bethel (look for the big red barn). Grounds open at 10:30 a.m. for the craft activity, with the show at 11 a.m. Bring blankets or chairs for seating on the lawn, along with sunscreen; the performance will move indoors in the case of inclement weather.
