Summer Camp Spotlight: WorkspaceCT STEM, Culinary and Theatre Programs

WorkspaceCT in Bethel (16 Trowbridge Dr.) is a 32,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art collaborative education facility that offers children of all ages year-round enrichment programs in STEM, Theatre, Culinary Arts, Woodworking and more. This summer, Workspace is offering affordable summer programming for children K-12 in a variety of these areas. Whether your child is interested in science, technology, cooking, robots or the performing arts like music and theater, WorkspaceCT has several classes this summer to allow them to explore their passions and interests all while developing new skills and forming friendships. And because WorkspaceCT offers many of these programs at other times of the year, enrolling in a weekly summer program is the great way to get a taste of what Workspace is all about before signing up for a longer session come fall!

Here is the lineup of summer programs for 2023. Sign up early as space is limited!

Broadway Boot Camp: Mean Girls, Jr.

Description: ACT SING DANCE! Broadway Boot Camp is a 3-week summer camp providing intense, creative training for anyone aged 11-17 looking to explore their potential and develop their acting, singing, and dancing abilities. Campers will be involved in all areas of theatre, including set design, creating props, and building costumes! This summer The Tandem Theatre at WorkspaceCT will be performing MEAN GIRLS JR. The Tandem Theatre Broadway Boot Camp does not require an audition and is full of exciting activities and inspirational training that builds confidence, teamwork, and self-esteem as well as provides the essential skills for the performing arts.

On the Stage Musical Theatre

Description: Students will explore characters and emotions using fun yet challenging theatre exercises and games. They will devise their own short script through a series of improvisations and put on a performance with costumes and sets they design themselves! Our goal is for your child to experience a learning process that enhances and develops their creativity and imagination in a structured, safe, and joyful environment.

Little Legends "Play in a Week"

Description: Little Legends "Play in a Week" for 4-7 yr olds is a fun-filled week filled with creating characters, singing songs, and stage movement. Delight in our range of unique themes guaranteed to keep your child fully immersed in a magical world of creativity. Enjoy a mixture of storytelling, songs, movement, and drama.  You'll laugh all week long and make new best friends- it's the most fun you'll have all summer.  A performance will be held on June 30 for family and friends.

Tech Explorers/Exploring STEM

Description:  Explore the world of STEM this summer with fun and excitement! Come join us for our one-week STEM camp for elementary and middle school students and challenge young minds with hands-on activities such as CO2 egg car racing, Vex Robotics, Drone flying, Theater, and Cooking with our chef.  

Soaring High: Exploring the Wonders of Aviation 

Description: Soar high with us this summer at our Elementary School Aviation and Flight Summer Camp! Campers will explore the wonders of aviation and flight through exciting activities, from drones to launching hot air balloons and understanding the science and technology behind flight.

Flight Camp for Middle Schoolers

Description: Explore the exciting world of aviation and gain hands-on experience with multiple types of aircraft, including fixed-wing, rotary, lighter-than-air, and even pilotless drones! During the camp, kids will also learn the fundamentals of many aviation careers.

International STEM Exploration 

Description: Join us for this unique two-week experience! You'll be paired with students from China and participate in exciting activities such as coding drones, building rockets, virtual reality projects, learning green screen recording, 3D printing, and even cooking.

Future Chess Masters

Description: Designed for beginners who are new to the game but also welcomes intermediate players who want to brush up on their skills. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the rules of chess, teach you the fundamental strategies, and provide personalized feedback on your play.

Mindful Art Camp

  • Description: Help your child cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and stress reduction. Campers will learn to focus their attention and become more present in the moment through various mindfulness techniques, such as breathing exercises and meditation. They will then use art as a tool for self-expression, allowing them to explore their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

Virtual Reality Programming

Description: Imagine being able to program in an immersive, three-dimensional virtual reality environment. Easily build in 3D with user-friendly creation tools. Add interactions with block-based coding or advanced scripting. Explore your creations in Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality.

Programming in Python

Description: You do not need prior programming experience to enroll. We will start with the basics of Python and gradually build upon that knowledge throughout the course covering basic syntax, variables, and data types as well as control structures and functions. You will work on various projects, from simple text-based games to more complex programs incorporating graphics and sound.

WorkspaceCT is a collaborative space owned and operated by Trumbull-based Cooperative Educational Services and Litchfield-based EdAdvance, two of the six Regional Educational Service Centers created by the state legislature more than 50 years ago with the mission of providing public school districts in their respective areas with supports and services. WorkspaceCT was formed by CES and EdAdvance to provide students and educators in western Connecticut with a unique setting to enhance learning and create educational opportunities.

WorkspaceCT has 32,000 square feet with a variety of rooms, labs, studios and more. There are rooms for math, coding and virtual-reality gaming; studios and theater space for creative movement, music, screening, and recording; a science research lab; full commercial kitchen; woodworking workshop; conference center; and a co-working space with individual learning stations.
