Newtown World Champion Taekwondo recently opened its doors at 125B S. Main Street and is now enrolling students ages 3+. The school was founded by Master Hyeeun Kim (Master Heny) who has extensive experience teaching pre-K to elementary school-aged children. She is not only passionate about imparting her love for Taekwondo to her students (she's been practicing since the age of 7!) but teaching them skills that will apply to all areas of their lives – whether it’s at home, in school or with friends.
Master Heny believes that Taekwondo teaches lessons of respect, teamwork, kindness, self-control, and integrity, and incorporates these values into each and every one of her classes. Furthermore, by utilizing a teaching method that is gentle, uplifting, and disciplined, Master Heny is passionate about helping her students accomplish their goals, face their fears, and grow into adults with a strong work ethic and self-confidence.
Below are the classes/programs that are currently enrolling:
Little Tigers (Ages 3-4)
This class will focus on introducing the basics of Taekwondo, teaching kindness and patience, and having loads of fun! From day one, students will learn the value of hard work and perseverance. No matter the age, martial artists are taught that winning and losing go hand in hand. If you want to earn a new belt or master a new skill, you have to overcome challenges first. Learn more.
Kids Taekwondo (Ages 5-11)
Between social media, peer pressure, and the demands of school, kids today have a lot of distractions. Taekwondo is the perfect activity for your child, providing benefits that go far beyond the dojang. Classes are offered for Beginners, Color Belts and Black Belts. Learn more.
Adults and Juniors (Ages 12+)
Classes are guaranteed to not only increase your strength and fitness levels, but to decrease your stress and anxiety, push you to perform better in work or school, and help you sleep better at night. Learn more.
Parent / Family Classes
Parents of children who attend World Champion Taekwondo – Newtown can attend Family Classes with their children for FREE! Family Classes are held on Saturdays from 10:00 – 10:40 am.

Headmaster of Newtown World Champion Taekwondo
Master Heny started Taekwondo when she was 7 in South Korea. She began by asking her father to let her start training in Taekwondo. In the beginning, he refused because he thought Taekwondo is not for girls. After 1 year of begging, however, he figured out that Master Heny really wanted to learn Taekwondo. She started competing as a Poomsae athlete in 2009 and has since received over 70 medals. Her biggest achievement was when she received a gold medal at the US Open Taekwondo Championship in 2015. And now, Master Heny is the first and only female headmaster from the World Champion Taekwondo school! Master Heny feels that it is very important for young students to build up their character and has seen time and time again how learning Taekwondo has helped them.
