Learn to Skate - Enhance your level of skill, exercise and have fun!

Learn to Skate classes offer a fun and relaxed environment for skaters of all skill levels, from age three to adult.



Snowplow Sam -  Ages 3-5, Beginners 
Snowplow Sam Class is designed for pre-school age skaters to develop the ABCs of movement: agility, balance, coordination and speed. The ABCs are essential for developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy. All classes will be taught in a safe and positive environment, incorporating fun and games making class time an enjoyable experience for all.

These introductory classes are divided into four progressive levels for children with no prior skating experience. Snowplow Sam builds confidence in skaters, coupled with excitement FUNdamentals, creating an important building-block experience. Each session consists of a 25 minute instructional class and 25 minutes of supervised on-ice playtime.

Learn to Skate USA - Ages 5 - Adult, All levels 
Learn to Skate is where your skating journey begins. This program is designed to build a strong skating foundation for figure skating, hockey and speed skating. Groups are formed with skaters of similar age and skill level, skaters progress at their own pace working toward mastering each skill. The mission of our program is to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. Each session consists of a 25 minute instructional class and 25 minutes of supervised on-ice playtime.

Other Fall Skating Programs

Learn to Play Development Hockey - This program is a fun and encouraging USA Hockey sanctioned atmosphere for skaters to learn the "ins and outs" of the game, while developing basic ice hockey skills in a pressure-free atmosphere. Tuesdays, 5:30-6:20pm, September 6 - October 18



Basic Skills for Hockey - Skaters will learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus of the levels and will be taught without a stick and puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and other necessary fundamentals to be successful in hockey practices and game situations. Saturdays, 10:00-10:50am, September 10 - October 22

Adult Instructional - Picking up the game later in life? Or has it just been a while since you've put on the skates?  Our adult hockey instructional program encourages the development of the beginner through premier player in a warm, friendly environment. Sessions include personalized instruction as well as controlled scrimmages. Players are grouped by skill level. Sundays, 8:00-8:50am, September 11 - October 23

Aspire Bridge - An Introduction to Freestyle. Designed for basic skill level 6 and above. Learn the fundamentals of figure skating, including the moves in the field, jumps, spins, synchro and ice dance in a formalized environment. Mondays, 5:00-5:50pm, September 12 - October 17 & Saturdays, 9:00-9:50pm, September 10 - October 22.



Intro to Rinkettes - An instructional synchronized skating program. All levels welcome! Take your first step toward being a part of a synchronized team. Saturdays, 10:00-10:30am, September 10 - October 22

Meet Jody, the Skating Director here at the SportsCenter! Jody has been coaching for over 25 years and has been with the SportsCenter for over 15 years serving as an instructor and Skating Director. Jody is a United States Figure Skating Gold Medalist and is an active member of Learn to Skate USA, US Figure Skating Association and Professional Skaters Association and is Safe Sport Certified. Jody’s love for skating is transparent; her mission is to pass on that love for skating and instill values that make an amazing athlete and an extraordinary person. Opened in 1999 as a Golf Driving range. The SportsCenter of Connecticut has grown into the premier Family Fun Entertainment Center in New England.
