Summer Camp Spotlight: Theatre and STEM Programs at WorkspaceCT

WorkspaceCT in Bethel (16 Trowbridge Dr.) is a 32,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art education facility that offers children of all ages year-round enrichment programs in STEM, Theatre, Culinary Arts, Woodworking and more. For summer 2022, Workspace is offering programming for children K-12 in the areas in Theater Arts and STEM. 

SUMMER STEM PROGRAMS

Drones & Rocket Camp

  • Description:  Has your child ever wondered how things fly or wanted to build their own drone? At flight camp, kids will participate in several hands-on activities that will explore aircraft such as fixed wing, rotary, lighter than air, multiple other types of aircraft, even drones. 
  • Dates: 6/27 - 7/1; 9am-12pm

Intro to Maker Camp

  • Description: Does your child like to build things and problem solve? In this program kids will explore simple machines and power sources by building and constructing things like Rube Goldberg machines, balloon cars, water bottle rockets and more. All activities will be highly engaged hands-on learning activities that focus on problem solving.
  • Dates: 7/5 - 7/8; 9am-11am

Underwater Robotics Camp

  • Description: Have you ever wanted to explore what’s under the sea? Do you wonder how new types of marine animals that we don’t know even exist are discovered? What about exploring shipwrecks like the Titanic that are too deep for humans to dive? During this camp you will be building your own underwater Seaperch Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The best part is you get to keep it so you can go out and explore on your own. After you build your ROV we will put your driving skills to the test by completing an underwater obstacle course.

SUMMER THEATRE PROGRAMS

Broadway Boot Camp

  • Description: Workspace Broadway Boot Camp is a full immersion theatre experience. Campers will rehearse and perform a fully staged original musical, with song, dance and of course acting. But just as important, they will be a part of the creative process, writing dialogue, lyrics and creating original layered characters. Campers will also design and build costumes in our costume shop, build sets in our stage craft room, create short videos and record voice-overs in our recording studio. Even design a prop on one of our 3d printers!  
  • Dates: July 5-15; 9am-3pm; Final performance on Saturday, July 16 at 6pm.

10 in 5 Masterpiece (Session I)

  • Description: Write and perform a ten minute play in 5 days! Students will be given one prop, one theme and a costume piece and the technology that abounds at Workspace, including, recording studio, green screen and more! Your imaginations are limitless. Under the guidance of Leland Williams and experienced faculty students will write, cast, set, costume and perform a Ten-Minute Masterpiece. It can be done!

WorkspaceCT is a collaborative space owned and operated by Trumbull-based Cooperative Educational Services and Litchfield-based EdAdvance, two of the six Regional Educational Service Centers created by the state legislature more than 50 years ago with the mission of providing public school districts in their respective areas with supports and services. WorkspaceCT was formed by CES and EdAdvance to provide students and educators in western Connecticut with a unique setting to enhance learning and create educational opportunities.

WorkspaceCT has 32,000 square feet with a variety of rooms, labs, studios and more. There are rooms for math, coding and virtual-reality gaming; studios and theater space for creative movement, music, screening, and recording; a science research lab; full commercial kitchen; woodworking workshop; conference center; and a co-working space with individual learning stations.
