Every year during the month of May, Bethel’s Byrd’s Books hosts a summer Bookmark Contest in which kids and adults design a bookmark that illustrates a book they love. “We have guest judges choose a winner and runner-up in each of five categories/age groups - then we print 100 each of the winning bookmarks to give out to visitors who are stocking up for their upcoming beach reads, cozy fireside snuggles, or children’s lights-out bedtime stories, whatever make their vacations just right,” says Alice Hutchinson, owner of the popular community gathering place. “Our bookmarks add that extra touch of surprise that we like to pack in everyone’s summer tote.”

This year marks the 8th annual Bookmark Contest, which has become a highly anticipated art event over the years. Five winners get a $25 gift certificate to Byrd's Books and 25 of their bookmarks to give away. The contest runs through the entire month of May. One submission is allowed per person, and teachers are encouraged to make student submissions a class project. Instructions for submitting your bookmark creations are on the entry form, which must be received by May 31st. Go to https://bit.ly/3MKHnMh to download a copy or pick up a copy at the store.  “We cannot wait to see your favorite books in art!” notes Alice.

One winning bookmark will be produced from each of the following 5 categories: Grades Pre-K– 2nd, Grades 3rd - 5th, Grades 6th -8th, Grades 9th -12th, Adult. Good luck to all!
