Strings, Band and Summer Music Intensive

Your child can spend two weeks this summer with the Danbury Music Centre (256 Main St.) learning, performing, and experiencing great music. The Danbury Music Center is a cornerstone in our community and has offered summer educational programs since the 1950’s.

Summer 2021 programming features Summer Bands (July 5-16), Summer Strings (July 19-30) and a Chamber Music Intensive (August 2–7). All programs will take place in person at the Danbury Music Centre with masks and social distancing. 

Summer Bands
Two Weeks: July 5-16, M-F; 9am-3pm

Ages: All Levels

Summer Bands offers participants at all levels the opportunity to play staples from the concert band and jazz band repertoire as well as the opportunity to learn a new instrument and for participants at a beginner level, the opportunity to take part in STEAM-inspired projects and activities. Summer Strings
Two Weeks: July 19-30; M-F; 1pm-5pm
Ages: Intermediate, Advanced and Novice Levels 
(Beginners will return in 2022)

Whether participants are looking for a summer program that enhances their musicianship or performance ability or whether simply looking to make new friends with fellow musicians, Summer Strings provides both. Electives will still be offered such as improvisation, chamber music, and fiddling. STEAM projects will be incorporated into the program. For level requirements and more information, see here.

Chamber Music Intensive
One Week: August 2-7; 9am-4pm

Ages: 15+

This week-long program, directed by Joana Genova and Ariel Rudiakov, consists of coaching, rehearsals, workshops, discussions, masterclasses, and performances. The CMI is open to intermediate to advanced instrumentalists: violin, viola, cello, and double bass , who are interested in playing chamber music in a non-competitive setting, under the guidance of experienced faculty. Intermediate to advanced: violin, viola, cello and double bass instrumentalists may apply. For level requirements and more information, see here.

About the Danbury Music Centre

The Danbury Music Centre, is a non-profit organization located at 256 Danbury Main Street housed in a beautiful 19th-century building, formerly the public library. We provide classical community music experiences through our ensembles and events. In 1993, the Danbury Common Council dedicated the upstairs rehearsal hall in honor of the late Marian Anderson, a world-renowned contralto who was a resident of Danbury and served on the Music Centre Board of Directors.
