When the publisher of Martin Handford's delightful Where's Waldo? series of clever page-to-page adventures suggested that Bethel's favorite bookshop, Byrd's Books, postpone its annual summer 3D version of Where's Waldo? until 2021, owner Alice Hutchinson and her intrepid gang said, "NO WAY!" Byrd's Books has hosted the popular event since the beginning, and this is their NINTH year. Of course, with certain restrictions still in place, Byrd's Books had to meet this year's challenges with a bit of its own cleverness.
So, in respect for shorter hours and social distancing, 25 Waldo pictures have been placed in 25 select windows by participating Bethel businesses, and Waldo hunters will have two months, until Friday, August 21st, to fill their passports and post their finds in the hopes of winning some neat prizes.
Each Waldo Hunter can print a passport by visiting https://bit.ly/2VKPJLH, and can mark their own passports as they find Waldo. "We trust you," says Alice. "We also hope that you'll take a cell phone picture at each stop and post it on our new Where's Waldo in Bethel? Facebook page. We're looking forward to seeing what Waldo hunters find."
A drawing for prizes will be held at a Zoom Party on Friday, August 21st at 4:00pm. To qualify for prizes, a Waldo hunter must have recorded 15 out of 25 passport locations, then email the passport with their photo and first name to Info@Byrdsbooks.com, with Where's Waldo in the subject line. Byrd's Books will post the photos on the Where's Waldo in Bethel? Facebook page unless asked not to do so. The hunt is already on, so you're encouraged to get your passports now. And to add to the fun while looking for Waldo, be sure to join in the Summer Sidewalk Sales, scheduled for Saturdays, July 11th & 25th, and August 8th & 22nd, 11:00am to 4:00pm.
