Neighborhood Window Easter Egg Hunt

Easter might look different this year, but can still be a special time for our kids

The arrival of spring and celebration of Easter always fills me with hope, even given the current situation. The days are growing longer and our world once again fills with color as the trees sprout leaf buds and the first flowers begin to emerge.

Easter includes some of our family's favorite traditions, including an egg hunt. This year, though, scrambling around a park in search of candy-filled plastic eggs isn't an option. The 4th Annual Macaroni Kid Easter Egg Hunt to benefit Tarrywile Park & Mansion was just one of many local egg hunts cancelled this year. See note at the end of this article about how you can help Tarrywile since our egg hunt has been a major fundraiser for them each year.

With in-person events canceled and church services taking place online, Easter will look different in 2020, but that doesn't mean it can't still be a special time filled with happy memories.

Macaroni Kid has an idea to help create a fun neighborhood Easter egg hunt while still practicing social distancing. Kids will have as much fun decorating their eggs as hunting for them!

1. Print our FREE Easter egg designs

You can get four designs — including a plain egg — here!

2. Color and hang in windows

Encourage your kids to be creative in their designs and decorations. They can use stickers and stencils to create their own look! Make as many eggs as you want and put them up in the windows of your house facing toward the street.

3. Share this article with people you know

The more people who participate, the more fun this Easter egg hunt will be! Share this story with friends on Facebook, with neighborhood groups, and anyone else you know who might want to take part!

4. Submit your street on our egg hunt map

*UPDATE APRIL 12: HERE IS THE UPDATED MAP with approx. 60 streets! Don't have Google Maps? Click here to download and print the updated list of streets.

5. Take the kids for a drive and see how many eggs you can "collect" along the way.  NOTE: At the time of publishing, there are no known travel restrictions within Greater Danbury. Should that change please follow state and local guidelines. Please also follow all traffic signs and do not slow down or stop where it might be unsafe to do so.

Together, we can add a little fun and color to our neighborhoods and give our kids some joy -- even on this most unusual of Easters.

A NOTE ABOUT HOW TO HELP TARRYWILE PARK & MANSION

Normally this time of year we'd be gathering at Tarrywile Park and Mansion for our 4th Annual Macaroni Kid Easter Egg Hunt, filled with festive crafts, refreshments and visits with the Easter Bunny inside the mansion followed by a friendly egg hunt on the back lawn. We were very saddened to have to cancel that event due to state mandates regarding social gatherings instituted last month. Not only has it become a favorite family tradition for so many Greater Danbury area families (including my own!) but it has also become a very important fundraiser for Tarrywile.

Becky Petro, Executive Director of Tarrywile Park and Mansion shares, "Even though we are a public park, we are only funded 50% by the city. The financial support we receive from Macaroni Kid through the Annual Easter Egg and Candy Cane Hunts enables us to continue to care for things like the Children’s Garden, our trails, the Environmental Education Center and many other parts of Tarrywile Park that the local community has come to enjoy."

Since we can't physically gather at Tarrywile this year, we are asking our readers to please consider making a $5, $15 or even a $25 donation to Tarrywile Park and Mansion since we couldn't have our Egg Hunt fundraiser there this year. You can learn more about Tarrywile and donate by clicking on the image below.

Thank you in advance for your support!
