The St. Joseph Catholic Academy Class of 2019 Grade 8 graduates triumphantly tossed their caps into the air when St. Joseph Catholic Academy graduated its first class of 18 students at their Commencement Liturgy held on Saturday, June 8 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brookfield.
Students Amanda Hoyt, Shaun McKenna, Zach Morris, Avedis Ovanessian, Michael Spaziante, Liam TeeKing and Sania Toprani received a President's Award for Academic Excellence citing their ability to achieve 85% or above in their composite standardized testing as well as maintains a 95% or above school academic record. Students Alexander Godino, Frances Hanley, Cole Ross, Isabel Taiman, Alexander Olcese and Emma Tomaselli received a President's Award for Academic Achievement citing their ability to achieve 75% or above on their standardized testing an 85% or above school academic record. Of the 18 students, 14 received High Honors and Honors recognition. Subject area awards were presented to students who received the highest grade point average. Shaun McKenna received the English, Science and Math awards, Zach Morris received another Math award, Amanda Hoyt received the World Language award, Frances Hanley received the Religion award and Alex Godino received the Social Studies award.
Ten graduates will be attending parochial high school, three will be attending private high schools and five will be attending their local public high school. Student Shawn McKenna was awarded an annual merit scholarship of $2,500 from Immaculate High School and student Lily Sweeting received a one-year Isabelle T. Farrington $2,000 academic scholarship. Student Alex Godino reflects on his years at the school and states that "The teachers here are the nicest, kindest teachers I know. They really care about your education and your experience when you are in school." Student Council President, Amanda Hoyt acclaims that "Saint Joseph's is a great community. We have such a great relationship with the Church, so whenever there is an event going on across the street, anyone who wants to help out from the school is welcome."
In addition to celebrating their first SJCA graduating class, the school celebrated with its Pre-K children in a Moving Up ceremony.
