REVIEW: ZeroWater

Baby Brunch Sponsor 2017

Before hosting our 3rd Annual Baby Brunch, I had never heard of ZeroWater. I have been a tried and true Poland Spring or Dasani water fan for years. I’ve tried Brita and other tap water filter systems and never found any to be as crisp and clean tasting as the bottled water. But after trying ZeroWater, I will say it comes pretty darn close!

Check Your TDS
Taste aside, I was astonished to see how much TDS (total dissolved solids) the filter was able to remove from my tap water. Before I filtered the water, I inserted the meter and it registered about 119. After? 000! WOW. For comparison, the FDA maximum allowable TDS for purified bottled water is 010. The EPA recommended maximum for tap water is 500. You can find the average TDS score for your zip code using this handy tool/map on the ZeroWater web site.

What does the ZeroWater filter actually remove?
It removes 99% of chlorine, nitrates, fluoride, chlorite, arsenic and other metals, lead, mercury, multiple pesticides and VOCs, and much more. You can see the full list of contaminants here and a comparison of how much of each is removed vs. Brita. Note that it does NOT remove bacteria (it’s meant to be used with municipally treated water).

How often do you have to change the filter?
This depends on the quality of your tap water (the higher the number, the shorter the life of your filter). But it’s rated for 15 gallons.

ZeroWater makes a number of products for you to enjoy filtered water both at home and on the go. At the Baby Brunch, I showcased the 23-cup dispenser but they also have both 6-cup and 10-cup ready-to-pour pitchers, a 26oz portable filtration tumbler (a mini filter built right in!) and more. The cost depends on the size of your dispenser, but for example a 23-cup dispenser is $39.99 and the replacement filters run $29.99 for two. You can find ZeroWater products at Target, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohls, Best Buy and Amazon. Prices may vary by retailer.

What did the Baby Brunch attendees think about ZeroWater?
“Wow, it tastes great - very clean and crisp”
“I’m curious now what the reading is on my tap”
“The portable filter cups are great!”
“It’s affordable…I expected it to be more expensive!”
