My daughter loves Stepping Stones Museum for Children. We've gone several times the last few years. Her favorite exhibit is the Energy Lab, followed closely by Build It, but each time we go we also take time to explore the special "traveling" exhibit that the museum brings in from time to time. The newest special exhibit called, Run! Jump! Fly! Adventures in Action™, opens Monday, January 16 and from the sounds of it, I'm pretty confident it will be a hit with my toddler!
Run! Jump! Fly! motivates children to be active by making physical fitness fun. The exhibit’s four adventure scenes and “action star training center” provide imaginative settings where children can try out surfing, kung fu, yoga, climbing and other high-appeal activities. Featuring the theme of action-adventures popular in children’s books and movies, the exhibit invites visitors to participate in physical challenges that build strength, coordination, balance and endurance in a non-competitive environment.
“Children’s health and physical fitness is a critical topic today,” said Rhonda Kiest, executive director at Stepping Stones. “Run! Jump! Fly! aligns perfectly with our current exhibits and initiatives. Stepping Stones is designed to energize and engage children with healthy messages that can lead them to make healthy life choices.”
Run! Jump! Fly! encourages visitors to try activities they may have never before encountered and to revisit familiar activities in new ways. Cultural spotlights and real-life stories of young people and families who are passionate about a particular activity enhance visitors’ motivation to get into action. As visitors move through the exhibit and have fun with physical fitness, they will discover new ways they can be active daily.
Throughout the exhibit, kids and accompanying adults stamp the activities they tried on Action Trackers. Visitors can also take home a 3-Day Mission Action Tracker – activity logs that encourage people to be active for a total of 60 minutes a day.
The exhibit aims primarily at children ages 5-12, while children 2-5 will also be able to join in the fun of many of the activities. Additionally, Run! Jump! Fly! includes exhibit activities accessible to visitors with varying physical abilities and developmental needs.
