The mission of Wooster School is "to educate the minds of its students, to cultivate their ethical understanding, to develop their artistic appreciation and expression, to promote their physical well-being -- thus to prepare each individual for college and for a useful life."

As students work to gain understanding in the classroom, we work to help them understand themselves; for learning how they learn may very well be the most important lesson of all. This approach to developing the whole child yields graduates with strong learning and thinking skills and confident communicators who go on to successful careers in college and beyond.

In the Lower School, grades Pre-K through 5, we create in each child a love for learning by integrating language arts, math and science, world languages, and hands-on learning. Through a carefully crafted and facilitated curriculum, students develop teamwork as well as a sense of self-reliance, self-confidence, and self-expression. Wooster provides an abundance of opportunity for students to express themselves through the visual and performing arts and athletic competition and play. These work in tandem with our academic program to engage and develop students.

Wooster’s Middle School (Grades 6-8)
offers a challenging curriculum taught in small cohorts by dedicated faculty. Faculty and parents work hand in hand to navigate the waters of early adolescence and create autonomous learners with a true passion for learning. Meaningful connections are made for students by integrating experienced-based learning with technology and traditional classroom learning.  Access to the arts, athletics, and co-curricular activities round out a student’s experience, preparing them for a successful Upper School career.

The Upper School, grades 9-12, provides outstanding preparation for college. Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated by our dedication to the art and craft of teaching and our sincere love for students. A layered curriculum interweaves multiple disciplines to create meaningful, relevant interactions for students and teachers. The Felton Learning Studio in the newly renovated Coburn Hall is one of several innovative spaces where form and function meet to engage students in meaningful, visible learning – all the while building skills and developing the personal characteristics that are the hallmark of a Wooster graduate: to be gentle, generous, truthful, kind and brave.

Wooster School prepares students for college and their life beyond.  Each week, Chapel meetings provide a foundation for a character development curriculum that is intentional as well as practical. Citizenship, service, and stewardship are fundamental to a Wooster experience and every child participates, every child contributes. Led by Wooster’s seniors, Middle and Upper School students share in the care and keeping of the campus, working in teams with each student taking on a different “job.” In our Lower School, students participate as well, working independently and as teams to care for their shared spaces. Together, students make meaningful contributions to each other and to the community; but, their contributions go well beyond our campus. Wooster graduates complete 100 hours of community service. Each year, students select organizations to support with their time and talents. This work is the foundation of Wooster’s culture of philanthropy, best described in our school motto, “From each according to ability; to each according to need.”
