Back-to-School Money Saving Tips

By Laura Bruce September 15, 2011

Hey Macaroni Kid readers, here's a few back money saving tips for you to implement in your home!

Cleaning Supplies - When we started cleaning houses we realized that our profits would not be as high if we had to go and buy a bunch of cleaning supplies.  Instead, we researched homemade cleaning ingredients and recipes and we made our own for under $20.  As long as you can get past the vinegar smell (it dissipates after an hour or so) you can save a lot of money and you can save your family from harsh chemical exposure.

In-Home Workouts - Our family is very health conscience.  In addition to running we like to lift weights and keep up with the most effective exercises.  Obviously, we can't afford a trainer, but a few months ago my son posted on his Facebook that he was looking for fitness videos.  Fortunately, he had a friend who gave one to him for Free.  Now we all reap the benefit and it is now part of our training routine.   You never know unless you ask!

Homemade gourmet coffee - I'm not going to lie,  If I could drink Starbucks for free I would drink it over my homemade version any day!  But the fact is that we can't afford for me to spend $5 a day on a frap!  I save about $150 per month by making my own at home.  I still buy Starbucks coffee beans by the pound when it's on sale at the grocery store.  I can usually get it for about $5.99 on sale or less!  Todd bought me a fancy cup and I fill it up with ice, creamer, stevia and coffee.  I actually do enjoy the taste and it feels good to not spend money on something that is not needed.
